19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his first trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.
The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.
He saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
