Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
